On a quiet Sunday afternoon on the 27th March 2011, 6 would be burglars thought they would try their luck at one of our Wigan based clients businesses. Our client, Leigh Cables Ltd, a cable manufacturer and distributor of industrial high performance cables thwarted our would be criminals by making the choice to have CCTV cameras installed on his premises.
The incident in question occurred at 17:00 on sunday afternoon. The gang of would be burglars drive onto site in a white van and parked up near some roller shutter doors. This in itself is not unusual accept for the proximity to the building.
With credit to one of Shepherd Fire and Securitys‘ eagle eyed CCTV Operators this seemingly benign behaviour was noticed and hence began our action protocols. First, our CCTV Operator hailed the site over the loud haler we installed. The purpose of this before anything else is to get the would be criminals off site without damage to persons or property as quickly as possible.
The 6 rogues thought they could beat our operator and that they time was on their side. What they failed realise was that they were being monitored inside the building as well as outside. It was clear they were intent on taking the goods. Immediately after haling the unwanted guests Greater Manchester police were dispatched.
In the minutes that ensued while the police were on route our operator executed stage 3 of our Monitoring Response Plan, gather information. Despite having the cameras up its always important to ensure as much detail of vehicles and persons is captured as clearly as possible as this can all be provided to the authorities at a later date. Executing some very well rehearsed camera adjustments and timing the visitors movements to perfection our Operator was able to get some very clean ‘mug’ shots and better yet, the registration of the van in all its glory.
Minutes later the Greater Manchester Police arrived on site and the chase began. One officer followed the burglars and another secured the scene. During all the activity we kept our client in the informed and in minutes of police arrival he was there on site. Another critical piece of the puzzle for police.
In the end Shepherd Fire and Security delivered what we promised and prevented the theft of some very expensive stock. Added to that, the text book execution of our Monitoring Response Plan meant we got 2 of our 6 caught. Yes, caught, cuffed and arrested.
The success of Sunday afternoon ultimately boils down to one thing. Our client making the decision to install CCTV and backing that up with quality Monitoring from us.
